Lecture by María Luisa Segoviano

On 11 December, in the Historic Building of the University of Oviedo, María Luisa Segoviano, Magistrate of the Constitutional Court, gave a conference on ‘Equality and Social Freedoms’ in which she explained and presented, based on the analysis of specific cases, the most important current jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court on issues such as the content and limits of freedom of expression or video-surveillance in work spaces and labour relations. The conference also addressed the issue of non-discrimination on the grounds of birth which, in relation to single-parent families and their childcare leave, is addressed by the very recent STC 140/2024, of 6 November. Verónica Cañal (Director of the Chairs Area of the Vice-rectorate for Transfer), Nuria Rodríguez López (Director General of Transparency and Participation of the Government of the Principality of Asturias), Paz Menéndez Sebastián (Professor of Labour Law and Director of the Equality Office of the University of Oviedo) and Alejandra Boto Álvarez (Lawyer of the Constitutional Court) also participated in the activity, presenting and contextualising the lecturer’s intervention.
